Nadine Dorries tells MP to ‘wake up’ after he fell for parody twitter account

Nadine Dorries has instructed Labour MP Wes Streeting to “get up” after he responded to a parody Twitter account believing it to be hers.

The account, managed by @Cassiesmyth, pretended to be the Digital, Tradition, Media, and Sport Secretary through the use of her full identify and a duplicate of her Twitter profile image.

The spoof account retweeted Conservative MP Nicola Richards’s resignation with the caption: “it appears like no person needs to rise up and work nowadays”.

Richards had tweeted her resignation from her function as parliamentary non-public secretary (PPS) to the Division for Transport, saying she can’t serve “beneath the present circumstances”.

Labour MP Wes Streeting appeared to consider the parody account to be the true Dorries, and shared the tweet, calling it “exceptional”.

In a now-deleted tweet, the shadow well being and social care secretary wrote: “The Conservative MP for West Bromwich East is lazy based on a Conservative cupboard minister.

“Outstanding. Labour leaflets don’t write themselves – Nadine writes them.”

To which the true Nadine Dorries responded: “Get up, Wes. It’s a reported parody account.”

Streeting went on to recognise his mistake however added: “Actually sorry, Nadine. In my defence, it’s onerous to inform parody from actuality…”

Streeting was not the one MP to fall for the parody account, with Conservatives Jamie Wallis and Angela Richardson defending their colleague in since-deleted tweets.

Wallis, the MP for Bridgend and Porthcawl wrote: “Nicola is a devoted, hard-working MP in addition to a trusted colleague and good buddy.

“Responding to her resignation in such a way is beneath somebody in your place.

“Bitterly disappointing Nadine!”

Richardson, the MP for Guildford and Cranleigh wrote: “PPS work extremely onerous with none further pay and sometimes zero recognition for big dedication outdoors Westminster.

“Not a crucial nor a constructive statement.”

Ipswich Conservative MP Tom Hunt additionally appeared fall for the joke tweet and known as it a “completely uncalled for assault” on Richards.

The parody account has since modified its identify to Cassie and eliminated the profile image.
